The Insurance and Savings Ombudsman Commission has
appointed an independent committee to conduct a review of the
operation of the Insurance and Savings Ombudsman Scheme. Periodic
reviews are provided for in the rules of the Scheme and this is the
second review, the first of which was completed in 1997.
Liz MacPherson has been appointed General Manager
of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, which is part of the Ministry of
Economic Development, chief executive Geoff Dangerfield announced
today.
The Minister of Consumer Affairs has announced
proposed changes to consumer credit laws. The reforms will see the
Credit Contracts Act 1981 and the Hire Purchase Act 1971 replaced by a
single Consumer Credit Bill. Drafting of the Bill will begin
immediately with the aim of introducing it to Parliament in the first
half of next year.
A short measure carton of milk discovered by a
consumer was more than a drop in the bucket according to the Ministry
of Consumer Affairs who has taken Court action against Invercargill's
Southern Fresh Milk Company Ltd.
